Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas

7 Sept 2019 The Guardian.

Marvin Dames, the security minister, said authorities were striving to reach everyone, but the crews could not just bulldoze their way through fallen trees and other rubble because there might be bodies not yet recovered. “We have been through this before, but not at this level of devastation,” Dames said. The United Nations has estimated 70,000 people were in “immediate need of life-saving assistance” such as food, water and shelter. World90% of infrastructure damaged’

The World Food Program said it had delivered 14,700 ready-to-eat meals to Nassau on Friday that would be distributed to the islands. A senior WFP spokesperson said it had a team in Abaco: “Assessments for Abaco found widespread destruction, with thousands of houses leveled, telecommunications towers down, and roads blocked; in Marsh Harbor, an estimated 90% of the infrastructure appears damaged.”

Hundreds of Bahamian citizens desperate to escape the devastation of Hurricane Dorianwere ordered off a ferry to Florida, sparking a dispute between US immigration officials and the operator of the vessel. Crew members aboard the Balearia in Freeport, Grand Bahamas, told evacuees without valid US visas they would have to disembark because US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) warned “in a last-minute call” they would not be admitted to the US on arrival in Fort Lauderdale. There is more in the Guardian on the 9th Sept 2019

There are approximately 10,000 yachts 100+ ft. or larger, in the world, as of August of 2016. However, approximately 150 new yachts are constructed each year so the number will, of course, rise each year. Florida: 914,535 registered boats in 2010. Florida held the number one spot for total boat registrations

Rally to Help the Bahamas

6 SEPTEMBER 2019 BY MIRANDA BLAZEBY

Super yachts are setting sail for the Bahamas to help with the relief effort in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. Crews are calling for donations as they continue to help divert yachts to the most affected areas and help local communities recover after the Category 5 hurricane hit the area on September 1. A number of Super yachts have pledged to assist Operation Topaz, the relief effort set up by Yacht Aid Global in collaboration with CBS Bahamas, Sol Relief, World Hope International and NEMA.

The 47.24-meter Christensen Super Yacht Loon, the flagship of the relief operation, made the nine-hour trip north from its slip in Atlantic

Loon is accompanied by a supporting cargo ship loaded with supplies, from amphibious vehicles and drones, to water, food, fuel and medical kits. Upon arrival, disaster and rescue teams were deployed while crew ran the tenders to Hope Town to stage some of initial supplies.

Joining Loon are motor yachts Turquoise, Hospitality, and Perla, among others, who are headed to the Abaco Islands from Florida with supplies.

Elsewhere, the crew of the 55 meter Amels super yacht Gene Machine has encouraged all available super yachts to assist Yacht Aid Global with relief efforts. The 73.2 meter Delta Super Yacht Laurel made the journey from Newport, Rhode Island, to Old Fort Bay on the West coast of Nassau, while the medical ship Pacific Hope made passage from the Dominican Republic and is stationed at North Bahamas providing medical help, evacuation and support.

It is already happening, never hear about this stuff on the news, there is so much more out there

Thanks

Hey Jimmy,

This sounds really good and I certainly hope that the military might of the US is utilized in this way. Our environment will become ever more volatile as time goes on. Especially if we don’t do something to curve the emissions we give out now.

With regards to your airship ideas, these are something we want to work on in the near and long term future. The EOS for example will hopefully be used as a radio relay above disaster zones whereas the Hemera and Aether will be heavy lifters designed for dropping of mobile hospitals in disaster swept regions. Thunderbird 2 inspires them!
